#372-2

Love the glare spots in these ones..... plastic, though unpredictable, can be a lot more fun than glass sometimes.

(I couldn't resist a little PS jump assist.)

Photo Fun session #372

compulsory full manual, no auto-focus, rough manual focus, vague light metering, mucho light bleeding, marvelous fuzziness and fabulous inconsistencies. Just what I ordered...

Isaac at Mt. Vernon

Just as I'm sure George often was, Isaac was inspired by the scenery to take a moment and contemplate the deeper things in life.

Isaac kicks back on George's mellow back porch.

Gotta love those old key holes.

George Washington's Digs

Used PS to erase some tourist's in this one.

Who's the black sheep?

Merry Christmas to me

First try with a new christmas present (Thanks Dad!!) 38mm plastic lens, with adapter.
Should be pretty fun in sunlight. I love the low tech look.

Random Lights etc.

Me and Isaac playing with lights. No post-processing on any of these.

Aperture closed, shutter open quite awhile.

Flashlight Graffiti. A lot less messy than other styles.

Tried to make a home-made version of this:

DC Temple Lights

Went to the DC temple. We got some good pics of us and the fancy Christmas trees inside the visitors center, and we got a few decent night shots of the temple. But this blog is for crazy photography, so here are the not so traditional ones.
I had some fun with flash+long shutterspeed+movement. Fun to do something different. Isaac, as always, was a great sport and a great assistant.

The lights were beautiful, but man was it cold.

Isaac took this one.

All of these are strait from the camera, absolutely zero post-processing. Not that photoshop isn't fun, but it's a lot more fun sometimes to get wild effects with just light, lens and shutter.

NYC

Starry Night, the actual painting. Isaac insisted on having his pic taken with such a famous painting, he took it very seriously.

Bryant Park has this cool holiday craft market and there was this nice outdoor porch with a fire and heaters. We lounged around, and warmed up with hot apple-cider and table-top smores.

Modern art, gotta love it.

Great location, very classic feeling building.

Empire State (on 34th) from Bryant Park behind the NY Library (42nd)

Chrysler in the background, not quite as high but much prettier

Tree and ice rink at Bryant Park

Settings on this screen got a bit messed up,
so sorry if the contrast is a bit off on these, couldn't quite tell how my adjustments were taking.

Playing with software

I have been playing with Nik software as a photoshop plugin and the results are amazing. Here is a before and after from Zion.

This is how it came out of the camera.

This is processed.

I will post more as i continue to figure this stuff out.

Portrait

I am excited to use some of my photo gear that has been packed away for the past few months. Especially this 85 mm F1.8 portrait lens. It's a static lens and pretty narrow, so it takes some getting used to. But on a cloudy day with a cute kid, it's a good one. The background is actually quite close, but this lens blurs it quite nicely.

Farewell to antelope island...

...and to all her solemn creatures, may they enjoy winter in the solitude and peace they have grown so fond of.

brighton

Went riding at Brighton today, it was amazing. No crowds, clear skies, no wind, cool temps. Fluffy pow in quite a few spots, and the groomers stayed zip-zip corduroy the entire day. Perfect. It's amazing how with just a cleverly engineered piece of equipment and the most fundamental force in the universe (gravity) such subtle and gentle movements can have so much control at such speeds, incredible feeling. I love that place, even though its been years since I'd been there, it felt like I'd never left....

This may not have been the best idea, but I couldn't resist:

Hop, skip and a... Jump.

Not too much at the park yet, some little rails and this big old boxy wall thing. The snowboard kids were having a ball on it.
