Sweet pics!! I love the leaves and the water drops. Looks like that macro does a great job. Arizona has some very nice looking weeds, at least shot with your expert eye!
the black is nothing, that is what happens when the subject is bright and the background is not, it goes to black. try it out sometime, take a picture of something bright with a muted background, expose the subject correctly and the background will go black, or at least dark.
