The Chattahoochee River

I know that you all are not that into country music. But one of my favorite songs in high school was "Way down yonder on the Chattahoochee!". Its a very catchy song! Imagine how excited I was to find out that The Chattahoochee River runs right through Columbus, GA! It is the border that seperates Alabama and Georgia. There is a beautiful river walk that runs something like 12 miles or more along the riverside. The north end of this trail is not far from our house, so we FINALLY went for a stroll. It was gorgeous!

The word Chattahoochee is said to mean "treacherous waters". And there are apparently crocodiles in there. We did not see any, but you won't see me swimming in there! Yikes!

We find it amazing at how different, but still beautiful the vegetation is depending on what part of the US we live in. Here are some of our GA favorites.

The butterfly leaf. (sound like on official name?)
All through the city of columbus, there are these vines of ivy? (i think). They over grow everything, including telephone poles. In this picture there are bushes, huge pine trees and more. You just can't see them.

There are tons of little islands like this along the river. Some big, some small.

There are 4 or 5 Damns that are in our stretch of the river, this is one of them. I am not sure what its called.

We have seen many different creatures here. And finally got some shots of them. Georgia's moths are furry, (must be the humidity!) and her lizards are colorful.

Is it legal to take pictures of stranger's without their knowledge? Isn't this how you would picture an old, sweet, widowed southern man spending his days? Fishing and telling stories? Well.... his story is not really that one. But more to come on our blog about that.

As he was leaving he said, "I ran out of bate. The fish ain't bitten'. Should have brought a hand grenade."
